This is Grizzly Bear Country: Human Bear Interactions from Yellowstone to Alaska
The images below are part of an ongoing photojournalism project first started in 2022 as part of the Larsh Bristol Photojuranlsim Fellowship at the University of Wyoming that Julia was selected for. Julia first spent the summer months in Yellowstone documenting the interactions between humans and grizzly bears, where she used her familiarity with the area to capture unique images that show the accessibility of bear-viewing in Wyoming. Julia then spent August of 2022 in Alaska, where she visited remote, high bear density areas (including the Kootznoowoo Wilderness and Katmai National Park) to document the difference in interactions there. The overall goal of the project is to show the complex ways bears and humans interact when forced together, and highlight the need for coexistence.
